Replacement For Discontinued Atwood Drum Brake Actuator For 2 Inch Hitch Ball

Question:

Need to replace my ATWOOD Surge Brake Actuator on my 2000 Jayco Heritage Laurel pop up camper and not seeing the exact replacement online, can you guide me as to which one would work best. RV weighs about 2,550 dry with tongue weight of 350. The trailer is an A frame type with drum brakes and a 2" hitch ball. The bolt holes are 3 inches on center and 1 inch above the bottom of the frame. The A frame has a 3.5 inches between the rails the ATWOOD unit is 3.25 inches in width. Hope this helps clarify the unit I am looking for would like to have a reverse lockout on the unit as well. Thanks for your help

Thanks for all that detailed info, and Atwood is out of business which is why you can't find the exact replacement. We do have an option for you, that will bolt on, with the caveat being you will likely have to use shims. The reason for that is the only option to replace it is a bolt-on coupler meant for 3" wide channel tongues, so it won't be quite 3-1/2" wide.

So what I recommend is one from Titan, which does have mounting holes 3" apart on center like yours, but you will also need to add the reverse lockout:

- Titan Zinc-Plated Brake Actuator - Drum - Multi-Fit Ball # T43397007K

- Replacement Solenoid Valve for Titan Brake Actuators # T4748800

I have added a link below to a video review showing how to install the reverse lockout.

Question:

Will the Demco Hydraulic Brake Actuator - Drum - Zinc - 2" Ball - 7,000 lbs Item # DM72VR Work as well as the Titan?

Yes it will; if you'd like you can use the Demco Hydraulic Brake Actuator - Drum - Zinc - 2" Ball - 7,000 lbs # DM72VR.

This also doesn't have a lockout but you can still use the Titan # T4748800 with this actuator.
