What is the Bumper Clearance Measurement of the Draw-Tite # 24920 and the Curt # C11406?

Question:

Hello, Im trying to choose between the Draw-Tite # 24920 and the Curt # C11406, which are the 2 options for my 2019 Honda Fit. You have some helpful QandA responses thank you for those is esp. useful, because it includes some pinhole-to-bumper measurements. My question is: where can I find those measurements? Is that info. published by the manufacturers, or are they measurements youve pulled from your own installation work? The difference in clearance is probably what will determine which one I get, and I want to make sure Ive got the right numbers. Also, when you say that one hitch has better bumper clearance than another, does that mean its more recessed under the car, or pushed further out beyond the bumper? Just want to be sure Im interpreting this correctly so I can visualize how these compare and get the right one. Thank you!

Great questions! When choosing between the Draw-Tite Hitch 1-1/4" # 24920 and the Curt Hitch - 1-1/4" # C11406 for your 2019 Honda Fit, the bumper clearance measurements we have are the result of our install team's specs when they install the hitches on different vehicles; the manufacturers don't provide us with that information. The great news is that we have both bumper clearance measurements for both hitches when installed on your 2019 Honda Fit. I've attached the install videos that go over these different lengths. The measurements are as follows:

- Draw-Tite # 24920: 3 inches from the center of the hitch pinhole to the outside face of your rear bumper
- Curt # C11406: 3-1/2 inches from the center of the hitch pinhole to the outside face of your rear bumper

With these two measurements, the Draw-Tite installs 1/2 inch closer to the bumper. When an expert says that a hitch has "better bumper clearance," they mean that the hitch is installed closer to the bumper. With this in mind, I recommend the Draw-Tite over the Curt if you are going for better bumper clearance.

If you are looking for an accessory that is compatible with the hitch you choose, feel free to respond to this answer with your accessory needs, and I will guide you to the right product(s).

Question:

Hi Bob, thanks so much, this is super helpful. I do have a follow up. I want to use a cargo carrier that I already have for light loads, but its for a 2 receiver. Your item #HT5R, a Brophy expander adapter with a 5 rise, looks like it will do nicely. It will enable me to use the carrier while at the same time also lifting it a little further off the pavement, which is very helpful on this car. So I dont really need the most clearance, I just need enough for this combo. In fact less might be better to have the hitch more recessed when not in use. From that adapters item page it looks like either hitch will do. Those drawings suggest a max pinhole to bumper distance of 3-5/8. The Curt might be cutting it close, but with some curve in the bottom of the bumper it should accommodate the adapter, even with that angled 45 deg. tab thing. What do you guys think? Please take a look. What is your recommendation in this particular context? Thank you!!!

You are definitely correct in saying that using the Brophy Hitch Adapter # HT5R will be cutting it close to the 3-1/2 inch bumper clearance requirement of the Curt Hitch # C11406. For this reason, I recommend going with the Draw-Tite # 24920 when using your cargo carrier.

Another thing to consider is the difference in ground clearance of the hitches once installed on your 2019 Honda Fit. The Draw-Tite will provide you more ground clearance when installed (10-1/2 inches from the ground to the bottom of the receiver tube) compared to the Curt (9 inches from the ground to the bottom of the receiver tube). For the higher ground clearance height on the install, I also recommend the Draw-Tite. These clearance measurements are also reviewed on the attached videos of the hitches installed on a 2019 Honda Fit.

It is important to note that anytime you use a hitch adapter like the Brophy # HT5R, you reduce the weight capacity of the hitch by 50%.
