Recommended Hitch and Wiring Harness for a 2016 Honda Odyssey
Question:
I have a 2016 Honda Odyssey, and want to tow a Casita Travel Trailer. I need a hitch, a transmission oil cooler. Would you please advise on the best parts for this van.

I would be happy to set up your 2016 Honda Odyssey to tow your Casita Travel Trailer. You're going to need a hitch, ball mount, a couple of wiring harnesses, brake controller, and the requested transmission cooler. Unless your van already has a 7-way connector you will need the two wiring harnesses to not only control your trailer's lighting functions but also the brakes. I have linked installation videos for most of the components I have recommended so you can understand the installation process.
For your hitch I recommend the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver item # 75270. This is a class III hitch which has a 2' receiver. It is custom fit and bolts directly to your Odyssey with included hardware.
The Derale Series 8000 Plate-Fin Transmission Cooler Kit w/Barb Inlets - Class III item # D13503 is a confirmed fit for your Honda Van. It is 11" Wide x 8-3/4" tall x 7/8" deep. This efficient heat exchanger will prolong the life of your transmission and improve its overall performance. I have attached a picture of what the transmission cooler will look like installed.
The first wiring harness you will need is the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector item # 118521. This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your Honda's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side interior trim panel in your rear cargo area. This will provide your Honda with a 4-flat connector.
The second harness you will need is the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller - 7-Way RV and 4-Way Flat - 10 Gauge Wires item # ETBC7. The kit includes a pre-wired 7- and 4-way trailer connector that mounts easily at the rear of your vehicle with an included bracket. This kit is designed for use on a vehicle with an existing 4-way flat trailer connector and plugs directly into it.
To round out your towing setup I recommend the Curt Towing Starter Kit for 2" Hitches item # C45534. This towing kit will provide you with a 2" ball and a fixed ball mount with a 3/4" rise and 2" drop. It also includes a hitch pin and clip, hitch receiver lock with keys, hitch cover, and a storage case.
