What Tail Light Kit do I Need for My 16' Long Custom Trailer?

Question:

I made a 16 long dual axle trailer and need a light kit to make it legal for the road. The truck has a straight 4 prong plug. Which item # or product do I need?

For a great tail light, running light, and turn signal option for your 16-foot trailer, I recommend the LED Combination Tail Light Kit for Trailers under 80" Wide - Submersible - Driver and Passenger # TLL56RK. The tail light kit comes with a 4-pole connector to connect to your 4-prong flat plug. Apart from the bright LEDs, another great feature about this kit is that it comes with a license plate bracket that is illuminated by an underside light on the driver's side tail light.

Question:

Thank you for getting back to me on this Bob! The trailer is 90" wide and this kit says it's for trailers under 80" wide. Does that change your recommendation?

Thanks so much for providing me that information. Yes, that does change the recommendation a bit due to the legal marker requirements for trailers over 80 inches wide. For the new recommendation, that is the Aero Pro LED Trailer Light Kit for Trailers Over 80" Wide - Submersible - Driver and Passenger # TLL36RK. This kit also includes bright LEDs, an included 4-way connector, and a license plate light/bracket. The additional component in this kit is the 2 sidemarker/clearance lights that are legally required in most municipalities.

Question:

Yet another question or two... -Do you sell premade parts that can be bolted or welded to the back of the trailer to fasten the tail lights? My trailer was once a camper so, the tail lights were in the camper portion and there is no place to mount tail lights. By the way, do you know if the tail lights need to be set off the side or can they be in the "bumper" of the trailer? -Do you sell the conduit through which to run the wire? -Do you sell clips to hold the wire to the frame?

As far as your first question, our tail light kits like the # TLL36RK assume that you already have brackets and mounting locations on the trailer. We do not sell kits that come with mounting brackets. The best best is to use the Protective Mounting Bracket for Square Combination Tail Lights # WE68FR and drill/weld holes that correspond to the bolt locations of the # TLL36RK. Since traffic laws are different in different municipalities, I recommend reaching out to your local law enforcement to see if there are specific requirements as to where to mount the tail lights (either on the side or on the bumper).

For your second question, I believe you are referring to a wire loom. For this part, the Wire Loom, 3/8" Diameter, 10' Long # 39035 works great for your application.

For clips to hold the wire to the frame, I recommend zip ties like the Deka Cable Ties Kit - UV-Resistant - Black - 40 lb Tensile Strength - 6" Long # DW05724-25.
