Sliding 5th Wheel Hitch For 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 Short Bed
Question:
Hello, Can I tow an older fifth wheel with a 2006 Dodge Ram reg. cab 1500 hemi short box? The fifth wheel is a 1999 Eagle Jayco, model 211, 23ft., UVW 4050lbs. This is smaller camper in size and weight. If possible, what hitch should I use?

Helpful Expert Reply:
Yes, you definitely can tow a 1999 Jayco Eagle model 211 with a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 short bed.
I recommend going with the Curt A16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ R16 Slider - Dual Jaw - 16,000 lbs # C16521 and the Curt Semi-Custom Fifth Wheel Installation Kit for Dodge Ram 1500 - Carbide Finish # C16303-200.
You will need a slider because of the box length. If you do not get a sliding hitch or a rotating pinbox you will cause damage to your tow vehicle and or the 5th wheel.
You will also need a wire harness, I suggest the Curt 5th Wheel/Gooseneck Custom Wiring Harness w/ 7-Pole Connector - 10' Long # C56001.
You will also need a brake controller. If you do not have one I suggest the Redarc Tow-Pro Elite Trailer Brake Controller - 2 Braking Modes - 1 to 3 Axles - Proportional # RED44FR.
