Difference Between Tekonsha & Curt Wiring Harnesses For 2000 Subaru Legacy

I am looking to install a trailer hitch on a 2000 Subaru Legacy. So far I have chosen the Draw Tite Hitch 36284. I am looking for a wiring harness. It shows 2, The Curt 59496 and Tekonsha 119147KIT. What is the difference between the two?

Good question, and there are really just a couple of differences between the Curt # C59496 and Tekonsha # 119147KIT wiring harnesses for your 2000 Subaru Legacy. One is that the Tekonsha is rated for more amps overall, which is good because it will help ensure there is not an overload on the harness.

It also has a bit longer wiring to make it easier to install, and the biggest difference in my opinion is reliability, as we have found over time that Tekonsha makes the most reliable trailer wiring harnesses in the industry. So that's the route I definitely recommend going. Since you sound like you plan on doing some towing with your 2000 Legacy, here is exactly what you'll need, including the hitch you mentioned:

- Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver # 36284

- Vehicle Wiring Harness Kit # 119147KIT

- Draw-Tite Drawbar # 36061

- 2" Hitch Ball # 19258 or 1-7/8" Hitch Ball # 19257

The drawbar comes with the pin and clip already so you won't need to get that separately, and the right hitch ball will just depend on the size of the ball your trailer coupler latches to.
