What Roof Rack Fits Both My 2011 Volkswagen Jetta and My 2007 Toyota Matrix?
Question:
We have a 2007 Toyota Matrix bare roof and a 2011 Volkswagon Jetta 4dr bareroof and wondering if there is a roof rack system that would fit them both with out having to purchase two different sets. The roof rack would likely remain mounted most of the year and be predominately used for a ski type cargo pod.

I have a great solution for you. While we don't have a complete interchangeable roof rack that fits both your 2011 Volkswagen Jetta (bare roof) and your 2007 Toyota Matrix (bare roof), we do have a system that can use the exact same crossbars and mounting feet. The only difference between the two sets of roof racks are the fit kit that connects the feet to the roof of the vehicles. The difference parts are needed because fit kits are designed for specifically to fit the contours of roofs of different years/makes/models. With that being said, the roofs between your Jetta and your Matrix are different enough to require a different fit kit setup.
With that being said, here are the components that you can use on both your 2011 Jetta and your 2007 Matrix interchangeably:
- Inno Aero Crossbars - Aluminum - Black - 48" # INXB123-2
- Inno Through Feet for Aero Crossbars - Naked Roofs # INXS250
Here are the different fit kits for the vehicles:
- Custom Fit Kit # INK590 (for your Jetta)
- Custom Fit Kit # INK501 (for your Matrix)
With the Inno Aero crossbars, you receive the benefit of an extremely aerodynamic system that ultimately leads to better wind resistance and increased fuel economy. The feet also come with locking covers to prevent the system from theft. This setup provides you with 100 pounds of maximum weight capacity on both vehicles. I recommend consulting with the vehicles' owner's manuals to make sure both roofs can safely hold the weight you wish to transport.
If you already have a ski carrier, I recommend making sure that your carrier has the ability to mount to crossbars with dimensions of 3-1/8" wide x 1-1/8" tall.
If you are open to a great compatible ski carrier that fits perfectly on the Inno Aero bars, I recommend the Inno Dual Angle Ski and Snowboard Carrier - Locking - FMP # INTX726. This carrier allows you to transport up to 6 pairs of skis or 4 boards. The Dual Angle includes locking covers for theft deterrence as well.
