Explanation of What for Flat Tow Use Means on the Blue Ox High-Low Adapter

I am a little confused on the information presented for the Blue Ox 8inch High-Low adaptor. I am also new at the towing game so it might be that I simply do not understand terminology. In your ad it is stated that this product is for Flat towing only. Not for other types of towing. I do not understand this statement nor the term of Flat towing. I have a Curt Basket Cargo Carrier that I need to have it raised so I do not continue to scrape uneven pavement. Is this product acceptable for attachment to my vehicle for this item? Also, in the very near future I anticipate needing to tow a U-Haul small 5foot x 9foot open trailer with Ramp. Can this Blue Ox product be used to tow this type of trailer? Thanks.

When the Blue Ox High-Low Adapter for Tow Bars # BX88131 says that it is for Flat Towing only, it is referring to a different type of towing. Flat Towing is when you pull a vehicle behind a motor home using a tow bar like the Blue Ox Alpha 2 Non-Binding Tow Bar # BX7380. The tow bar comes from the motor home to the vehicle, the high-low adapter you are looking at is designed to keep the tow bar level with the vehicle. So it is designed when a motorhome is pulling a vehicle, not when a vehicle is pulling a trailer.

You could potentially use the Blue Ox High-Low Adapter for Tow Bars # BX88131 with your Curt cargo basket, but you would lose 50% of your tongue weight. For example, if you had a tongue weight of 300 lbs., it would now only be 150 lbs. You would need to factor the weight of your Curt carrier and cargo into that. For instance if your Curt Carrier weighs 65 lb. you would now only have 85 lbs. left for cargo.

These are just examples. You would need to factor the weights of your vehicle, carrier and cargo according to what you have.

The Blue Ox High-Low Adapter for Tow Bars # BX88131 would not be able to be used to tow the U-Haul trailer. It is not to be used with that style of towing. Instead you would want to use a Curt Ball Mount for 2" Hitches - 8" Rise # C45112 and 2" Hitch Ball # 40038 to get the 8" of rise you are looking for.
