How To Install The Progressive Dynamics Pure Sine Wave Inverter With Transfer Switch
Question:
I hope you can help! I purchased the progressive dynamics 1000watt inverter PD94FR but am super confused how it gets wired in. There is a cord hooked up to where it says ac in, a spot that says ac out, and another spot for dc + and -. I figure the dc part is the battery? But the ac out? does that go back to the panel or what? Thanks in advance!

Inverters like the Progressive Dynamics Pure Sine Wave Inverter w/ Transfer Switch # PD94FR require you to have two power legs in your circuit breaker panel. The inverter acts as a pass through when you're hooked up to shore or generator power and will power the second leg of your panel with DC power from your house battery when not hooked up.
If your panel doesn't have two legs then you'll need to purchase an AC sub-panel from your local hardware store to gain the second leg. I recommend getting one with atleast 4 spaces so that you have enough room to grow incase you want to power more later on down the road.
Any items you want powered by the inverter will need to be wired to circuit breakers on the second leg. Both power legs will require a 20 amp circuit breaker for the inverter. For the main panel/leg you'll wire the 20 amp circuit breaker to the "AC-IN" port of the inverter. On the sub panel/leg you'll use the second 20 amp circuit breaker as the main for the leg and wire it to the "AC-OUT" port on the inverter.
As for the DC ports, yes, you'll run the positive to the positive post of the battery with an inline fuse or circuit breaker like # PK54871PL. The negative can run directly to the negative post on your battery cable. There are very specific guidelines as far as wire gauge goes for both the AC and DC hookups so you'll want to ensure you follow the chart I have attached below.
I've attached a video below where I installed this inverter on a motorhome to help walk you through the installation process.
