Recommended B&W Companion Hitch for a 2022 GMC Sierra 2500 w/ Towing Prep Package
Question:
Do I need a sliding hitch or a standard hitch for a 2022 GMC Sierra 2500? I am looking at the B&W Companion but I am not sure which one I need. I have the factory prep package.

The answer to your question depends on whether or not you have an 8' bed or a 6-3/4' bed. If your GMC Sierra 2500 has a shorter bed you will want the B&W Companion OEM 5th Wheel Hitch w/ Slider item # BWRVK3775. The slider will give you 12" of travel for turning and backing into tight spots. If you have the longer bed you will want the Companion OEM 5th Wheel Hitch item # BWRVK3710.
I highly recommend the Companion hitch. These 5th wheel hitches will mount in the puck system of your Sierra and are easy to remove for full access to your bed. The Companion's 1" thick dual jaws provide 360-degree jaw-to-king-pin contact. This provides a more secure and quiet protection. The dual jaws also provide more security than other 5th wheel hitches with slide-bar jaws.
I have linked a review video below so you can see the functions of this hitch.
The B&W Companion weighs over 150 lbs and if you get the slider it weighs 250 lbs. If that's not something you're interested in moving by yourself and don't want to have to rely on someone to help you then I recommend purchasing the B&W 5th Wheel Lifting Device for Companion and Patriot Hitches item # BWRVXA3130. This heavy duty steel tool lets you lift your B&W 5th-wheel hitch from your truck bed with a hoist. The 5th-Wheel jaws clamp around the device for a secure grip.
Don't forget your lube plate. The Lube Plate for 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches - 10" Diameter item # RP83002 will prevent scratches on your fifth-wheel's skid plate and ease trailer hookup.
