Recommended Rooftop Cargo Box For My 2021 Toyota Highlander With Factory Roof Rack

Question:

Hello - I have a 2021 Toy. Highlander with factory cross rails. The distance between one cross rail to the other is approx 33 inches. I am looking for around a 15-18 cu foot roof box that can fit the 33 inch spread. A couple different options would be helpful as it would help to free up space in my vehicle with two kids and two large dogs. Would the Sportrack Horizon 16 work with the spacing and factory rails? Thanks!

I found three options that all have at least16 cu ft of space and will fit the 33" bar spread of your 2021 Toyota Highlander's factory roof rack.

My recommendation is the Thule Pulse Large Rooftop Cargo Box - 16 cu ft - Matte Black, part # TH615. It is a dual sided opening box. Most importantly it has the simplest installation of the three boxes AND you can attach tie down straps to the clamps to secure your load.

In a close second, is the Malone Profile18B Rooftop Cargo Box - 18 cu ft - Black, part # MPG911. It comes in a close second because it is slightly bigger than the Thule Pulse, 18 cu ft vs 16 cu ft. It is also a dual sided opening box. My one qualm is I am not a fan of the clamp on this box.

Last, I do have a SportRack option to fit your crossbar spread. The SportRack Horizon Rooftop Cargo Box - 17 cu ft - Black, part # SR7017, is the next box in size compared to the 16 cu ft Horizon rooftop cargo box, part # SR7016. It is a single sided opening rooftop cargo box. It also has the least friendly mounting setup of the three options.

The Thule and SportRack rooftop cargo boxes each have a weight limit of 110 lbs. The Malone option has a weight limit of 165 lbs. I have included product description links and video reviews of each box.
