Brake Controller Recommendation for 2006 Chevy Silverado

Hello I need a brake controller and wiring adapter for plug and play install on my 2006 Chevy Silverado LT Z71 crew cab. I’ll be towing a 20’ 2 axle car hauler with brakes on both axels.

For a brake controller, I'd recommend a proportional controller like the BRAKE-EVN # TK63VR, as they provide more effective and predictable braking than a time delayed controller like the # 5504 Draw-Tite Activator IV you'd looked at.

A time delayed controller will always send the same amount of pre-set voltage to the trailer brakes, regardless of whether the braking event is a tap on the pedal or a full-out panic stop. A proportional controller has an internal accelerometer that can determine how quickly the vehicle is braking, it will send the proportional amount of voltage to the trailer brakes so the tow vehicle and the trailer stop at the same rate.

For a wiring harness, you'll need the # 3015-P.
