Question:
My trailer has wiring with two brown wires that feed into the connector. The new four pin flat connector i bought only has one brown wire. Can i splice the two brown wires to the one brown wire and will it work properly?

What you describe is exactly what you'll need to do. Your trailer uses what's referred to as a wishbone wiring harness that splits the running lamp circuits into two legs, with one leg running down the passenger, and the other running down the driver's side. Simply combine the two circuits and connect them to the brown wire on the 4 pole trailer connector, such as # HM48114.
