Wiring Brake Controller to Under Dash Wiring of 2021 Ford Ranger

Question:

I have the 4 wire Curt universal harness pn 51515 with connectors for 12v, ground, brake signal, feed to trailer. The Ford ranger exposes 4 wires yellow/orange, blue, white, violet/white. Assuming they are the 4 connections needed, can you tell me which ford wire is which. Bonus question: the Ford OEM controller by Redarc requires wiring to the center brake light, while the Curt requires just the 4 wires. Seems strange. Am I missing something with the Curt install?

We had the chance to install a brake controller in a similar Ranger as your 2021 model and when using standard brake controller wiring like with the # C51515 to install the Curt Echo Mobile # C27JR the yellow/orange goes to the black wire, the blue wire is going to go to the blue wire, the white wire is going to go to the white wire, and the violet with white stripe goes to the red wire.

Question:

The 2021 Ranger has 4 wires under the driver side dash near the fuse box for aftermarket trailer brake controllers. So far so good. I noticed that the Yellow 12v wire is ALWAYS hot. Its not switched with ignition, its always on. So if I lock my truck and leave it for a month, the brake controller will draw current the entire time. Is this a problem? Should I find a switched 12v source? Im using the Curt echo under dash I purchased from etrailer thank you!

Brake controllers go into sleep mode after 10 minutes or so which prevents them from drawing a significant enough amount of current to drain the battery. So you do not need to worry about your battery being dead if you left the vehicle parked for an extended period of time.
