Is Converter Needed For Adding Solar Panels to Camper With 2-Pin Connector to Charge Batteries

Question:

I would like to add solar to my 2004 Lance 835 cabover camper. A friend mentioned that I may have a two pin connector in the middle of the left side of the roof. I do have the connector just like his camper that does have a solar panel. My question is if I buy a solar panel, can I simply just connect it to the two pin connector and it will charge my battery or would I need to also purchase some kind of convertor? Thank you,

Expert Reply:

To charge the batteries in your camper with the 2-pin connection, no type of converter is needed, just a solar controller. And the controller is something that is included with the portable solar kits, for which there are three different options, with different solar panel wattage.

The best option will depend on the amount of power you need; the higher the solar panel watts, the more power it will store. So you can choose from any of the following three:

- 90 Watt Solar Panel - Go Power Portable Solar Panel with Digital Solar Controller # 34282729

- 130 Watt Solar Panel - Go Power Portable Solar Panel with Digital Solar Controller # 34282730

- 200 Watt Solar Panel - Go Power Portable Solar Panel with Digital Solar Controller # 34282610
