Bike Rack Recommendations for 2 E-Bikes for a 2022 Mercedes Sprinter 3500 Leisure Travel Van RV

Question:

Im looking for a bike rack to transport 2 Electric - Lite bikes, about 39 lbs each. We have a 25 ft. RV Leisure Travel Van What products would you recommend? Hope the rack and bikes do not block taillights or license plate. But not sure if that is possible?

We have a solution for you that provides you with the license plate and tail light visibility you need. Judging by my available photos of your 2022 Mercedes Sprinter 3500 Leisure Travel Van, the license plate mounts right above the hitch receiver. With that location, the license plate will be blocked by a hitch-mounted bike rack. However, if you are worried about this, you can always use a PlateMate License Plate Holder # Y02713 and the Curt Auxiliary LED Indicator Lights # C53201. Both of these parts are super easy to install and do not require any drilling. They simply mount to a suitable location on the bike rack. If you need a 4-way harness for your Mercedes Sprinter 3500 Leisure Travel Van to use the indicator lights, I recommend the Tekonsha T-One # 118649.

For the bike rack itself, I recommend going with the Hollywood Racks Destination E Bike Rack for 2 Electric Bikes - 2" Hitches # HLY66ZR for a few reasons. First off, the rack comes with an integrated ramp that allows you to easily load your e-bikes onto the platform without ever having to lift them off the ground. Secondly, the independently-adjusting clamps on the rack are perfect for any bike frame design. This eliminates the need for a bike frame adapter bar if you have step-thru bikes or women's bike frames. Additionally, the bottom platform has great mounting locations for the # C53201 so they can be fully visible without being blocked by the bikes.

As far as compatibility, the # HLY66ZR fits bikes up to 50" long wheelbases and tires with diameters between 20" - 29" around. It also fits fat bike tires up to 4.5" wide.

Question:

Thank you for the info. I was told that our unit, 2022 Leisure Travel Van RL has its hitch connection further from the bumper than most other SUVs and/or vans that require the use of some kind of hitch extender to prevent the hitch or one of the bikes from hitting the back of our unit. Some have suggested this may make the carrier to be less stable and perhaps void the warranty of the hitch... Obviously I want the rack to be stable and not present some sort of reliability safety issue. Can you comment on this?

I can definitely comment on that. In order to have enough clearance length on your Leisure Travel Van RL when using the Destination # HLY66ZR, you need to have at least 7-1/2 inches of length from the center of your hitch pinhole to the outside face of your rear bumper. In order to make sure you have enough clearance length, I recommend you make that measurement on your van.

If you discover that you need more length, you can use a hitch extender like the # HE06 to provide you the extra length you need. While the length does add potential for more jarring, I recommend using the Curt Anti-Rattle Hitch Clamp for 2" Hitches # C27UR to provide you with the extra support you need with that added length. The clamp will provide you with greater tightness when using the hitch receiver with the hitch extender and the bike rack. I went ahead and attached a video that walks you through how the clamp works.

Also, it is important to note that if you use a hitch extender like the # HE06, you reduce the capacity of your hitch by 50%.
