How to Determine Turning Clearance with when Using the Reese Goose Box # RP94716

Question:

I have a 2022 2500 hd Chevy pulling a 2018 31’cougar 5th wheel, will I have enough room between to make turns and open the storage compartment? I’m replacing a Lippert 1621 pinbox . Also, can a goose neck adapter be mounted to a flex air pin box? And if so what is the air pressure recommend?

From the looks of your recent searches, you are asking about the Reese Goose Box 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Air Ride Coupler Adapter - Lippert 1621 # RP94716 for your 31' Cougar 5th wheel trailer. If this is the product you are asking for, there are a few measurements you can make on your trailer to see if you have enough clearance. I went ahead and attached a dimensions screenshot of the # RP94716. From the specs, you can see that the length from the nose of the box is just under 36.45" to the rear bolt holes where the box connects to your trailer. Also, the height of this box is 22.83 inches from the ball center to the center bolt hole where the box attaches to your trailer. In order to make sure you have enough turning clearance and height on your setup, I recommend measuring the length and height of your trailer's pinbox in relation to your hitch. Also, it is important to factor in the length of your storage compartment into this as well.

To address your second question, we strongly do not recommend using an Air Ride pinbox with a gooseneck adapter. This is because the Air Ride feature uses front/back and side-to-side movement to cushion shock. This movement will damage either the pinbox or adapter. With that being said, the # RP94716 is the best alternative option for your Lippert 1621.
