Recommendations for Transporting 2 Kayaks with Yakima LongArm Bed Extender on 2015 Ford F-150

Question:

I have 2015 F150 short bed. I need to haul a pair of 17’ kayaks. I have the Yakima Longarm bed extender, and I can raise it to cab height. Would like to pair this with a crossbar on the cab? But how do I mount the kayaks? The regular pad on the on the Longarm isn’t enough. Are there any kayak mounts that can be installed in the Yakima Longarm crossbar?

While we do have an option for you, we do not carry any saddle-style, flat style, or j-style carriers that are confirmed to fit the Yakima LongArm Bed Extender. This is because the 2" diameter of the LongArm is too thick for those carriers.

However, with that being said, if you are looking for more support than simply using the LongArm Pad # Y07417, I recommend using the Malone # MPG152. This kit comes with 2 18" foam blocks that have a contoured angle for your kayaks. The kit also comes with straps to secure your kayaks to the blocks/LongArm as well. You can also use the bow/stern ties to further anchor the rear of your kayaks to your vehicle.

For the front of your kayaks, you do need a roof rack system. In order to determine what roof rack system fits, feel free to respond to this answer with your cab type, and I will be happy to make a great recommendation with everything you need.

Question:

My truck has the Supercrew cab with panoramic moonroof. So please recommend a product to have on the cab. Is a single crossbar adequate or should I have two of them? And what would I use to mount the boat onto the crossbar maybe another Malone pad?

Since you are using the LongArm on your setup, you should be fine with a single crossbar as opposed to 2 crossbars on your SuperCrew cab. For a single crossbar, I recommend the following parts:

- Yakima JetStream Crossbar - 60" # 8880649
- x2 of the Yakima BaseLine Tower # 8880618
- BaseClip Fit Kit # Y06122
- Yakima Same-Key Locks # Y07202

With this particular setup, it will mount onto your roof with a moonroof. This particular crossbar measures about 3-3/4" inches high from the roof to the bottom of the crossbar. If you are worried about activating the moon roof with the crossbar installed, I recommend measuring the tallest height of your moon roof when opening it. As long as this length is less than 3-3/4" tall, you are good to go. With that being said, you will have a lot of wind noise when opening the moon roof with the crossbar/kayaks mounted.

As far as the front crossbar mounting method, the easiest solution is to purchase another pair of the Malone # MPG152. This comes with all the straps you need to attach the front end of your kayaks to the crossbar.
