Roof Rack Recommend for 2016 Honda CR-V to be Transferred to Truck Camper Shell
Question:
Hello, I am interested in purchasing either a Yakima or Thule roof rack for a 2016 Honda CRV with a naked roof with the intention of future transfer to a full-size PU with a camper shell. Rack would go on camper shell. Plan is to haul up to two kayaks. Possibly in the future possibly two bicycles alone or a bicyle and kayak. My initial impression is the Yakima would be be better of the two brands since it has the longer bar 60 in to allow more space for loads and to have better compatibility for the wider spaced tower mounting rails I would expect on a camper shell. I see that Yakima sells rails that can be attached to a camper shell. Thule does not? I would like to have the towers be mounted to rails to provide flexibility in spacing the bars. My intention is to have the more rack parts compatible with both vehicles so I do not have to buy any more vehicle unique parts than necessary. I know some camper shells are available with rails. Are these rails constructed by a standard that a Yakima/Thule tower is compatible? It may be a different connection than for a bare roof but not requiring a whole different tower. Or does each camper shell mfg have a different rail mounting design? Id rather not have the towers mounted directly to the shell. Sorry for the lengthy post but Ive attempted to be complete. If you need clarification let me know.

I can definitely help you out with getting the most parts that will transfer over from your 2016 Honda CR-V!
The Yakima roof rack is the way to go since it uses the longer 60" bars as they should transfer over to your truck cab nicely. The only problem is that the legs used for the naked roof on your CR-V won't be compatible with a track system so you will need to get new legs and a different fit kit for the tracks on your truck. A lot of truck camper shells do come with a track system but it's kind of hit or miss so you may have to add tracks if your camper shell doesn't have them. Below is a list of parts needed for your CR-V and then I'll have another list of parts for your camper shell - the crossbars will be the only parts that are the same.
2016 Honda CR-V
60" JetStream Crossbars - # Y00426
BaseLine Towers - # Y28TR
Fit Kits - # Y06148 and # Y06152
Lock Core Kit - # Y07204 (optional)
Camper Shell
60" JetStream Crossbars - # Y00426
SkyLine Towers - # Y53TR
Landing Pad 1 - # Y00221 (you'll need 2 of these)
Lock Core Kit - # Y07204 (optional...can be transferred from old legs)
Yakima 42" Tracks - # Y01126 (if camper shell doesn't have any)
Hope this helps!
