Inserting a New 7-Way Connector Into an Older Vehicle 7-Way

Question:

I received the replacement plug with pigtail, #54-67-525, that Id ordered. Before splicing it onto my trailer cable I tried to plug it into the tow vehicle connector, and cant get it to seat. Ive made some measurements on the contacts and dont see an obvious problem. The damaged cable and plug Im looking to replace had no problem engaging. Im attaching a photo of my TV-end connector. Any thoughts?

Thanks for the picture! It looks like the tabs on the center pin on your vehicles 7-way connector are bent in slightly. You can try to bend them out by inserting some needle nose plyers into the center pin and opening them. I recommend doing that and then using more force to insert the Bargman 7-Pole Round Connector w/ Hardware item # 54-67-525 that you purchased. It being a new connector it may need some force to get it to properly seat. If this doesn't work you may need to replace your vehicle's 7-way.
