How Does Electric Lockout Work on Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator

Question:

How does the electric lockout work on the Dexter #DX89FR actuator? I need to replace a Tiedown LP7000 that had a pin you had to relocate before backing the trailer up to avoid the brakes engaging. This was a pain so I am trying to find a replacement actuator that wont require relocating a pin. thanks for the help.

The electric lockout on the Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator # DX89FR works through a 5-way connection on your trailer and vehicle. This is the same as a 4-way but with the additional reverse lockout for the 5th function that is tied to your reverse light circuit.

When you put your vehicle in it will power the reverse lockout solenoid on the actuator which will keep the brakes from activating. Unlike moving a pin or a key you won't have to get out to engage the lockout since it is tied to the vehicle. This is how all electric lockout brake actuators function.

The # DX89FR will be a good replacement, although you may have to drill some holes to mount it in place of your old actuator. This also has a slightly higher capacity of 7,500 lbs and fits a 2" ball. I'm not sure what you have now for wiring but you may also need to add a 5-way to your trailer like the # HM47910. If you have a 4-way on your vehicle you would need the Curt Adapter # C57187
