Do The Landing Gears Need To Be Down To Use The Slide Function Of The Curt E16 5th Wheel Hitch

Do you have to put the landing gear down to slide this hitch? I currently have a Reese slider and half the time I can’t get it to move back even with the landing gear down

To answer your question, no the landing gears do not need to be down to use the sliding function with the Curt E16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ R16 Roller # 16516 that you were looking at.

Sliding hitches do not require you to lower the landing gears to slide the hitch back. The correct practice would be to pull the slide lever out of the locked position and pull your truck forward and the hitch will lock into the rearward position so that you can make your turn and then you would pull the lever again and back your truck up to lock the hitch back into the towing position.

If you're having issues with yours the slider base may need to be greased with some White Lithium Grease # L11354 to help it slide easier.
