Question:

Im tired of using the flimsy 7 to 4 adatpers when i swtich towing between my camper and boat. i noticed the later model Tundras and f-150s come with the dual 7 and 4 pin connectors facotry installed. id like to do the same on my tacoma. is there a part, or series of parts, where i can unplug my stock 7 plug and install this or something like it? Thank you

Since it sounds like your Tacoma already has a 4-pole in place, I would recommend the # HM40975-11998. As you mentioned, this is the same connector used OEM on late model Tundras, F150s, Ram Trucks and now, even the 2014 GM trucks.

There are two ways you can install this. You can cut off the existing 4-pole and hardwire it to the 11998 pigtail, if cutting off the 4-pole does not bother you. The wiring harness would then wire to the pigtail as follows:

Harness yellow wire connects to pigtail red wire
Harness green wire connects to pigtail green wire
Harness white wire connects to pigtail white wire
Harness brown wire connects to pigtail brown wire

This would cover your lighting functions. If you have been using a brake controller, you will also have a wire that carries the brake output voltage which is usually blue in color. This could connect to the blue wire on the pigtail. If you have a 12-volt accessory power wire ran to the battery, it would connect to the black wire on the pigtail.

If you did NOT want to cut the existing 4-pole off, you could simply use a trailer end 4-pole connector, part # 18004, plug it into the existing 4-pole and hardwire it to the pigtail as mentioned above. If you went this route, make sure you use some dielectric grease, part # 11755 on the connection between the two 4-poles. You will also want to seal the connection with electrical tape to further exclude moisture and prevent corrosion.
