Trailer Hitch Receiver For 2019 Honda CR-V & Wiring to Add 7-Way For Curt Echo
Question:
I have a 2019 Honda CR-V AWD that I will use to tow a 2016 Livin Lite Quicksilver 10.0 pop up camper. I will need to install a hitch on the car and also want to install electric brakes on the camper. Does the car need a 7 pole connector on the hitch, or will the standard flat 4 pole connector work with the brakes? I would like to use the Curt Echo. Also, please recommend which brakes to buy. Thanks!

We can get your 2019 Honda CR-V set up with a hitch and the necessary wiring, and you will need a 7-way in order to add electric brakes and use the Curt Echo brake controller. You'll actually need both a 4-way (for the trailer lighting functions) and will plug that into the 7-way, which gives you the needed wiring for the electric brakes. Let's go ahead and start with the hitch and wiring:
- Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C13397
- T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118741
- 7-Way RV Upgrade Kit for Trailer Brake Controller Installation - 12 Gauge Wires # ETBC7L
- Curt Echo Wireless Trailer Brake Controller # C51180
You will first install the 4-flat, which will activate your trailer's lighting functions, and you'll then plug that into the 7-way that comes with the # ETBC7L, which gives you the rest of the hardware needed for installation of the Echo brake controller.
That takes care of your 2019 CR-V, and in regards to brakes for your Livin Lite Quicksilver 10.0 pop-up camper, you'll need to ensure you have two things - a 4-bolt brake mounting flange (which is just a flange on the end of the axle with four bolt holes) and that your hub and drum measures 7" in diameter. It should but sometimes parts can get switched out so you'll definitely want to verify. If so, here is what you will need for the brakes:
- Electric Trailer Brake Kit - 7" - Left and Right Hand Assemblies - 2,000 lbs # AKEBRK-2
- Mounting Hardware for 7" Brake Assemblies # BRKH7
- Brake Adjustment Spoon for Drum Brakes # W80630
Finally, if your camper does not already set up with a 7-way to accept electric brakes, you will need a number of parts to make that happen: Deka Heat Shrink Butt Connectors # DW05745-10, Deka Jacketed 2 Wire, 10 Gauge, Brake Wire # 10-2-1 (sold per foot), Bright Way Push-to-Test Trailer Breakaway Kit # 3802346, Trailer Wiring Junction Box # 3375601100, Trailer End 7-Way - 8' # H20046 or 6' # H20044.
