Troubleshooting A Third Light Brake Light Camera That Is Sometimes Blurry And Sometimes Clear

Question:

I installed a 3460001 camera kit on my 2018 f-250 super duty. Everything worked fine until about 3 months ago I backed out of the garage started to hook up my fifth wheel flipped the switch on the camera and to my surprise the camera was all blurry to the point I couldn’t use to hook up the trailer. Now it seems to be getting worse. Sometimes now when it’s acting up the screen will go black until I switch back to the factory camera. I have checked the normal things like switch, connections etc.

It sounds like your Custom Third Brake Light Camera for 8" Factory Monitor # 3460001 may not be getting enough 12v power.

I recommend taking a circuit tester like # PTW2993 and testing the power wire to the camera to ensure that you're receiving 12v.

If you're getting 12V and all your connections including your grounds look good, then your unit may have gone bad and would just need to be replaced.
