Will Yakima Mighty Mount 39H Fit Yakima Jetstream, Thule WingBar & Rhino-Rack Vortex Crossbars

Question:

Hi, Id like to adapt an old Thule tandem carrier that has two four-bolt plates that tighten to lower square-bar grab plates. The carrier weighs in at around 25 lbs. Combined with our tandem, it will come to around 70 lbs. Id like to use four of these adapters, two on each plate for a total of four bolts, to fit the carrier onto one of the following three cross bars: 1. Rhino Vortex cross bar 2. Yakima Jetstream cross bar 3. Thule WingBar Evo I see the 39H is described to fit an aerobar of 3-1/8 inch wide x 1 inch tall. All of these bars claim the same dimensions that match the 39H. They are just slightly too wide for the bolt spacing on the old rack. Two questions: A. Will the 39H fit all three of these bars? or should I use the 23H adapter B. Is there a weight limitation for the adapters? I could not find one Complicated issue, but this rack is bullet proof for carrying a tandem. Thanks for noodling it for me.

You'll want to go with the 39H as the 23H is for narrower bars. The 39H will fit 3-1/8" wide x 1" tall crossbars like you said, so they WILL work with the Yakima Jetstream and Thule WingBar crossbars, because both of those crossbars are 3-1/8" wide x 1" tall. They will NOT work with the Rhino-Rack Vortex crossbars though as they are too tall, measuring 3-1/8" wide x 1-3/16" tall. So for the Jetstream and WingBar here is the part number for the 39H:

- Mighty Mount 39H Accessory Adapter # Y03539

The # Y03539 do not have a specific weight capacity, as they are specifically designed for certain Yakima products that have their own ratings. That said, one of those products is a kayak carrier with an 80 lb capacity so 70 lbs should not be any issue.

I also wanted to note that since the 39H are for specific Yakima carriers, I can't guarantee they will work with your Thule tandem carrier. Also, it sounds like you may not have a roof rack for your vehicle, so if you let me know the year, make, and model I'd be happy to find the right Jetstream or WingBar rack that fits.
