Recommended Weight Distribution System for a 4,000 lbs GTW Trailer

I’m interested in using an equalizer-stabilizer for my 2008 Buick enclave which has a towing capacity of 4500 pounds and payload of 1631. I have a 14 foot enclosed aluminum trailer with a 36 inch nose that weighs 2200 pounds. We haul a max of 1800lbs of motorcycles. Would stabilizer benefit? It’s a dual axle. Any recommendations. I noticed it becomes unstable when I use the highway and try to go faster than 55 to 60 mph. We use a 2 inch ball and a 2 inch hitch. I was also concerned about the hitch height as it’s not a truck so it’s not very high off ground. Thanks

I would be happy to help you. I think you mean a weight distribution system when you say stabilizer and based off of what you're describing I do think adding one to your set up would be beneficial. I checked all of the hitches we have for a 2008 Buick Enclave and saw no restrictions on using weight distribution. With an adjustable shank you won't have to worry about the height of your 2" receiver being too low.

I recommend using the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System w/ 4-Point Sway Control item # EQ37060ET. This system has a tongue weight range of 400 lbs to 600 lbs which will be perfect for your aluminum trailer. Tongue weight is usually between 10% - 15% of your trailer's total weight and that's what you want to select a system off of.

This system has built in sway control that will keep your trailer stable and in line when you are getting on the highway. It will really help when you are getting passed by a semi or hit a strong gust of wind. This system includes an adjustable shank and a 2" ball.

I also recommend the Classic Accessories Tow Bar and Weight Distribution Tote item # CA80113. This heavy duty bag is perfect for storing your weight distribution hitch. It is 36" x 11" Wide x 8" Tall and has padding that prevents damage to your hitch and prevents dings to your vehicle's cargo area from shifting gear.
