What is the Difference Between the 10-10 Grease Seals and the 10-36 Grease Seals
Question:
What is the difference between a 10-10 grease seal and a 10-36 seal? I see a lot of the bearing replacement packs are exactly the same, just the grease seal is different. Thanks

The difference between the 10-10 grease seals, # RG06-090, and the 10-36 grease seals, # RG06-070, is their inner diameter. The 10-10 grease seals fit older spindles with a seal journal (see photo) diameter of 2.125 inches. The 10-36 grease seals fit newer spindles with a seal journal of 2.250 inches. On 5,200 lb, 6,000 lb and 7,000 lb axles, manufacturers are no longer making spindles with a 2.125 inch seal journal, so they needed to come up with a seal that could fit the slightly larger seal journals. The inner and outer bearing journals remained the same, which is why you see the same bearing numbers.
To identify which grease seal you will need, I recommend using a precise measuring tool such as a dial caliper to measure the grease seal journal on your spindle.

When did the transition from 2.125 to 2.25 take place?I have 2 trailers with Al-Ko 5200lb axles, both built in 2011. One uses 10-10, but I cannot measure the other one right now.
