Wire Gauge Needed To Install The Hopkins 4-Pole to 7-Pole Adapter

The yellow butt connectors on the Hopkins Adapter 4-Pole to 7-Pole and 4-Pole # 37185 are for 12-10 gauge wires. You'll want to use 10 gauge wire # 10-1-1 for the brake controller (blue wire) and you can use # DW02508-1 for the 12v power so that you don't mix the colors up.

The purple wire is for a reverse lockout, which is typically used for boat trailers with surge brakes so that you can back up without the brakes activating. I typically tape this wire off and zip-tie it up out of the way. If you're in need of this wire function then I recommend getting the 10-2-1 and using the wire wire for this and the black wire for your 12v power instead of the # DW02508-1
