Question:
With the rack mounted on the hitch receiver, no bikes on it, I unlocked the bolt that allows the rack to swing out in order to allow access to the the rear hatch of the car. I swung it fully out so that the hinge point locked. The problem is that when I lift the red lever above the hinge point, it does NOT unlock the hint point and, thus, I cannot close the rack back up. To my knowledge the hinge point had not been damaged in the 8 years or so that I have had it. I have locked it out fully before and never had a problem. Any ideas? I talked to the bike shop at my local REI where I purchased it and they dont work on bike racks.

Sorry to hear about the trouble you're having with your Yakima FullSwing 4 Bike Rack # Y02465.
When trying to put the bike rack up, you're going to want to make sure that you're pressing the hinge release lever while pulling the spring-loaded pin. The pin should click audibly when it is seated fully.
If you've done this already and still no luck, I recommend contacting Yakima for a replacement as the piece of the bike rack that swivels is not available for a replacement.
