Question:
thermostat sleep is flashing and 2 digit numbers seem random, not an actual letter or number? Bad thermostat? bad fuse somewhere? Worked fine, I turned it off and when I turned it back on this started happening.

Have you tried cutting power to the thermostat to reset it? It sounds like an odd internal bug that a reset should help with. If that does not fix it you'd need a replacement thermostat with the part # AT15029 for your Atwood RV AC unit.
