Can A 2021 Ford Bronco With Modular Bumper Be Flat Towed From By The D-Rings

Question:

I have a 2012 Jeep with Smittybilt XRC Gen 2 bumpers and these adapters work with it meaning I do not need a separate base plate. I am thinking of trading for a 2021 Bronco and it has the Ford Bronco Heavy Duty Bumper with tow hooks. Do you know if these will work with that set up too? I have attached a picture of the Bronco I am looking at showing the bumper.

I believe you're referring to the modular bumper on the 2021 Ford Bronco. From what I can find the D-Rings are only meant for recovery purposes and aren't currently listed as being rated to tow from. This could be outdated information though so I recommend reaching out to your local Ford dealer just to be sure that the specific model you have is capable of being towed from the D-Rings.

If not, then the correct baseplate for the modular bumper is the Blue Ox Base Plate Kit # BLU23XR, which replaces the D-Rings.

You'll also need the following components in order to flat tow your Bronco:

Tow Bar: etrailer SD Non-Binding Tow Bar for Blue Ox Base Plates # e47ZR. This tow bar comes with safety cables included so that you don't have to purchase them separately. It also has an adjustable head and shank to help keep the tow bar level without the need of an adapter.

Tow Bar Wiring Kit: Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15267. This universal wiring kit ties into your Bronco's tail lights for a one-time installation that will display your motorhome's brake and turn signals.

There are some other wiring components that could also possibly be needed but they are specific to the sub models of the Bronco so I would need a bit more information for the wiring side of this setup.

Braking System: This is going to depend on the motorhome's braking system. If you have air brakes then the best option from both an installation and performance perspective is the Demco Air Force One Supplemental Braking System w/ Wireless Coachlink # DM26VR. If you have hydraulic brakes then the best option is the Demco Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System w/ Wireless Coachlink Monitor # DM86VR.

Both of these systems are a one-time installation that require no setup once installed, just get in and go. These both offer proportional breaking to match the amount of force you put on the brake pedal in your motorhome.

If you have any other questions then please let me know and I can help find the correct parts for whatever you need.
