Question:
I am ordering a replacement vent, your product V2110, with the install kit, RVIKIT100, to install in a new Trails West horse trailer. The manufacturer sealed the exterior of the existing vent I am replacing as well as sealing all the seams of the trailer. It looks like a liquid poured or spread about 2 inch over the entire exterior seams and screws. Your vent kit and info do not mention this exterior sealing. I understand the caulking of the new vent but the exterior joint and screws would then remain open to the elements. Is it necessary seal over the exterior seam and screws it would seem so if the trailer Mfr. does it and, regardless, can you recommend a product to do that sealing? Attached is a photo of the exterior goop installed by the Mfr. Thanks to your customer service rep who answered my preliminary questions. Looking forward to getting the vent replaced properly.

Thank you for providing the photo of the sealant used by your trailer manufacturer. It looks like the manufacturer built your trailer to last.
When you install the Ventline Ventadome Trailer Roof Vent # V2110SP-24 on your horse trailer using installation kit # 344270KITW you will definitely want to apply either the urethane sealant included in the kit, or as an alternative a 100-percent silicone caulk, readily available at hardware stores. (Please note that the urethane sealant is not suitable for use on trailers that have a rubber roof; if this is the case you can instead use Camco Kit # CAM25013.)
After you have installed the vent it is recommended to apply sealant around the entire outside edge of the vent flange as well as on each of the screw heads to help prevent entry of moisture. Since the roof exterior will not be visible (unless you find a need to climb back up there) I suggest a thorough and generous application of sealant. It is surely better to err on the side of too much sealant rather than not enough.
