Installing A Progressive Dynamics Inverter In A 2022 Keystone Bullet Travel Trailer
Question:
I would like to install this inverter on a 2022 Keystone Bullet with the pre-wired inverter prep.inch If I understand correctly, there is a loop of romex in the storage area that I will cut. Then I need to determine which side of the now cut romex is hot, this will be from the panel. The other side will be to the pre-wired outlets. Based on the wire chart, I will purchase 3 or 4ft, 2awg battery cables. These will connect the the DC ports on the inverter. Then I will connect the hot side of the Romex to the AC in and the other side to the AC out. Then I will wire a ground to the frame of the trailer and plug in and route the remote controller. Is that the correct installation? If I understand correctly, I will not need a transfer switch because this inverter has one built in, correct? Also, will the transfer switch in this inverter work with my trailer? My trailer uses a 30amp service when plugged into shore power. Thank you.

The Progressive Dynamics # PD94FR does indeed have an internal transfer switch, but because of this will require you to have a second hot bus bar for the circuits you want to power with the inverter. If your panel only has one bus bar then you'll need to install a subpanel and move the circuits you want powered by the inverter to the subpanel.
When AC shore power is available the transfer switch will shut the inverter off and allow power to flow through to the subpanel. When AC shore power isn't available the inverter will power the subpanel using the battery as its power source. You'll need a single 20 amp breaker in the main panel for the inverter and another single 20 amp breaker in the subpanel to transfer the power in to the subpanel and act as the main.
For the AC wiring you'll need a minimum of 14ga wire, so I recommend just double checking the wire gauge for the prewiring the manufacturer installed. I doubt they actually wired in the romex and just left live wires so you should be able to find it bundled up in both locations for you to complete the work, so whatever wire color you choose can be hot. I've the wiring gauge chart below to help you determine the DC wire gauge based on the length that you have to run it. Grounding directly to the frame is typically always going to be the best option so you're correct there.
The directions can be very confusing the first time you're doing this so if you have any other questions please let me know and I can help walk you through the process.
