How To Power A Furrion Vision S RV Camera Monitor In A Vehicle Without A Cigarette Lighter Port

Question:

Is there a way to get this to work in a 2022 or newer GM truck? They no longer have a 12 volt adapter. Only USB, USB C, and 110 in the cab of the truck. I have a camera system that I can no longer power with my new vehicle.

There are adapters on the market that can go from a cigarette lighter style plug that the # C-FOS07TAPK-006 has to USB/USB-C ports but we don't currently offer any so the only solution I can provide is the # RM-9332. This is a replacement outlet typically used to power portable braking systems when flat towing but can be used for this purpose as well.

The # RM-9332 is typically wired directly to the battery but you can use the included fuse tap and wire it to a fuse that only has power when the vehicle is running to avoid draining the battery in your Sierra. I've attached the installation instructions below to help you with this process if this is the route you end up having to take.

Is there a power cord that is direct plug from the camera monitor to usb or usb-c? Instead of an adapter for the large “cigarette lighter” adapter?

@PaulB At this time Furrion only offers the larger 12v cigarette style plug but has mentioned to us in the past that they were working on a cable because a lot of newer vehicles aren't coming with this style inlet built into them anymore.

@KevinC Is there an anticipated timeline for the replacement cable. We literally just bought a Furrion Vision 5 monitor set up that the camper dealership installed and now we are now discovering it is not usable with our 2024 GMC.

@Joe There unfortunately isn't every time I talk to Furrion. I think the the biggest hurdle is that the type-c outlets might not have enough amperage to fully power the camera monitor compared to a 12v cigarette-style outlet. You could mount a 12v outlet # RM-9332 low under the dash to hide it and still be able to power your camera system.

I have a new 2024 Silverado that does not come with the 12v plug. I purchased the adapter that Plugs into the usb port. But when I plug the camera plug into the adapter it does not get a good connection and flashes on and off. My truck camera system has several different views and also has a guest trailer option. Would I be able to pair the Furrion backup camera to my trucks system without using the 7in monitor?

@Dwright The USB port you're plugging into most likely isn't rated high enough to fully power the monitor, which is why it's losing connection and flashing. You would need to install the # RM-9332 in order to fully power the monitor. The Furrion system is closed and would not be compatible with GM's camera system. You would need GM's trailer camera system in order to use your dash monitor.

@KevinC When I click on the camera dashboard it gives me an option for guest trailer. Do you think I could pair it using that option? If so, what would be your thoughts on how to do that? Would I plug in the camper to the truck then select guest trailer?

@Dwright No, the Furrion camera system will only pair with its own monitor. The guest trailer function is GM's tracking system for trailers that you can use to enable the following features: - Tow/Haul reminders, creating maintenance reminders and more. - Camera Setup for Transparent Trailer and other trailering camera features (if equipped). - Trailer Tire Pressure and Temperature Monitoring System (if equipped). It doesn't work with non-GM camera systems.
