Where to Hook Up Red Wire for Redarc Brake Controller on 2017 Toyota Highlander
Question:
For a 2017 Toyota Highlander XLE AWD, w/ ETBC7 7 and 4 way installation kit, using the Redarc Tow Pro Liberty brake controller and associated universal RED69FR adapter, where do I connect the red wire coming from the trailer brake controller? I understand from the Redarc instructions and the wiring diagram for the ETBC7 that it needs to detect the brake application, but I’m not certain where specifically to connect that red wire to the Highlander’s wiring.

The red wire on a trailer brake controller like the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller part # RED24FR when using the Universal Wiring Harness for Redarc Tow-Pro Trailer Brake Controllers part # RED69FR will need to be attached to the cold side of the brake pedal. In other words, it's the wire that only has power while the brakes are active. The wire will be located inside the bundle of wires that attaches to the brake pedal. It's difficult to get to and even harder to test but required for installation. Unfortunately, I don't know the exact wire color for this on a 2017 Toyota Highlander so you will need to test yourself with a circuit tester.
