How To Add Brakes to a Bass Tracker Boat Trailer

Question:

Good afternoon I live in the mountains andI have a 2020 16 foot bass tracker aluminum trailer and it is a single axle with no brakes. Can I replace it with an axle with brakes? And if it can be done which one would you recommend? Thank you for your time.

In most cases, you can just simply add brakes to the existing axle and you don't need an entire new axle. That said, this is all based on the axle capacity and I don't have any way to look this up for you. If you have a 3,500 lb axle for example, you'd need the following:

Electric Trailer Brake Kit part # AKEBRK-35-SA
Easy Grease Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly part # AKHD-545-35-EZ-K
Junction Box # 3375601101
7-Way Connector # H20046
Hopkins Engager Push-To-Test Trailer Breakaway Kit part # 20400

If you have a different axle capacity, just let me know what that is and I'd be glad to see if we have the parts for that.

Hi Conner, I was thinking a surge break kit for my 17.5 bass tracker would be easier, and maybe even cheaper. But I would need a actuator that fits my swing tongue. Have you had such a request? thanks, Scott

@Scott Yes, it is possible to add a surge actuator to a swing away tongue, and this is a request we hear fairly often. Really any actuator, such as the Demco Hydraulic Brake Actuator # DM72VR can be used on a swing away tongue as long as there is enough material on the tongue to mount it. The # DM72VR actuator will fit a 3" straight tongue. If your trailer has a different tongue size just let me know and I will see what we can offer you.
