I have attached a link to an installation video on a 2012 Mazda CX-9 like you own. When all of the access to the tail lights is done in the rear cargo area, it can be difficult to find a place that allows you to run the 4-way connector on the T-One Harness, part # 118520. As they show in the video, when the T-one harness is not being used, you can just roll it up and stow it out of the way in your rear cargo area. This protects it from being damaged and also from corrosion.
If you choose to use an alternative routing for the wiring, we do carry a No-Drill Bracket, part # 18140, that can be attached to your hitch with the included hardware.
There may be a couple of ways you can run the harness under the vehicle to the trailer hitch and the bracket I recommended. In the video they show what appears to be a large grommet in the cargo area on the passenger side of the vehicle. One of our installers said there may be one on the driver side of the cargo area as well. It is located below the area where you attach the harness to the vehicle wiring. If you can fit the 4-way through the grommet opening you can secure the wires and attach it to the hitch.
Another way to run the wires would be to cut the wires for the 4-way harness and use the grommet that the black power wire is run through in the floor of the cargo area. You would want to run the 4-way wires from beneath the vehicle up through the floor so that the wires are reattached with butt connectors (sold separately), part # 05731-5, in the cargo area and not under the vehicle. This reduces the possibility of any issues with the connectors or wiring. Please be aware that if you modify the wires on the harness you will void the warranty.
