Question:
I have a tall topper on my truck which allows me to stand the bike up in the truck bed, but I prefer not to crawl into the truck with the bike. Id like to put the bike into the truck lean it against the topper wall, mount the rack to the front bike tire, then close the tailgate, and reach over to tighten the front straps. Is it possible to do it in this order?

You can install the bike and rack as you describe, but as a final step, you will need to pull the arm that secures the bike to the carrier toward you until you hear two clicks. This will ensure that the front of the bike tire is tightly held against the tailgate, as described in the instructions. I discussed this with my Thule rep, and she said getting the rack into place with a bike attached to it might be kind of awkward, but other than that, she had no problem with it.
