Question:

I have a Rockwood 2022 2898BS with a curt turning point pin box. i need to replace it because of chucking. could you tell me if i can replace by a flex air M15 or L15. I wrote to LCI customer service and this is what they told me about that. Hello, Thank you for contacting Lippert Care Center The Turning Point pin box is unique and proprietary. If can only be replaced with the exact same model.* * Unless another brand / manufacturer has a replacement but this is information we do not have available. Thank you

The Lippert Turning Point has a specific bolt pattern that only has one replacement so far, the Gen-Y Hitch Shock Absorbing 5th Wheel to Gooseneck Pin Box # GY48GR. This is a gooseneck adapter though so you'd have to switch out the hitch for a gooseneck ball for this to work. The torsion head will help reduce road shock and chucking transferred to your truck so it is worth considering, but you'll also be moving your pivot point back to the truck so you could run into clearance issues if you have a short bed truck.

Another way to help reduce chucking and road shock is to upgrade the suspension of the trailer. SumoSprings like part # TSS-107-40 and/or an upgraded equalizer like the MORryde AllTrek 4000 # MR29DR can help cushion and support the suspension for a much smoother ride quality. Upgrades like these are specific so we'd need to get more info from you to choose the correct fit, if you're interested.

I have a similar setup as this, and have given up hope with changing out the turning point hitch as a solution. I would like to install the 4000 suspension on my 2022 Rockwood 2893BS, however, a Q/A comment I read stated, "by: Zach03/02/2024 Review from a similar MORryde AllTrek 4000 in Trailer Suspension Parts Seem to be good quality. Only have about 2” ground clearance now." Is it correct that there will only be 2" ground clearance with these installed? My problem is I park my unit in a facility the I have to back into an enclosed spot that has a sloped entrance, and I would not want to scrape the rear end of the 5th wheel on the concrete entering or exiting. I need to do something for the chucking, recently I had shimmed the hitch to relieve up and down play with the Curt A16 that I am using to attach. Would the CRE3000 be a wiser choice?

@RjR If you're looking to replace the Turning Point and reduce chucking then a Gen-Y torsion pin box would be a major improvement. To find the right one we'll need to know your bolt pattern. There's typically a white sticker somewhere on or around the pin box that lists an RPO #, LCI item #, and serial # that we can use to find out what your bolt pattern is. You would just need to measure your current bolt spacing to determine if the AllTrek4000 or CRE3000 are going to be the right fit for your suspension. I'll attach a picture above showing how to measure your equalizer and then we can compare your measurements to find a fit.
