How to Determine What Blue Ox Sway Pro Head is Correct For Existing Spring Bars on a Trailer

Question:

I bought a 2020 trailer with part of a sway pro system. I have the bars and the mounts on the trailer, but not the hitch head and shank. How do I teell if I have the older style bars or the newew ones?

Expert Reply:

The spring bars may or may not play a part. Given the trailer is from 2020, there is a good chance you have spring bars that work with the old or new head.

The old head is the Replacement Head for Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution Systems # BXW4011 and uses the larger indention on the top of the bar to secure the spring bars using the built-in pins.

The new head is the Replacement Head for Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution System # BLU54XR which attaches to the spring bars using Spring Bar Attachment Pins # BLU72FR that feed through the holes on the sides of the spring bars.

I have included a picture of the Replacement Spring Bars for Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution System # BXW4007, which shows how both styles attach. If you only have the top indention, you want the old head. If you have the side holes, I recommend going with the new head to help ensure future replacement parts fit.

We also have the shank # BXW4000 and hitch ball # 63840
