Recommended Fifth Wheel Hitch For A 2018 Chevy Silverado 2500 With OEM Puck System

Question:

I have a 2018 Chevy 2500HD Duramax diesel. It has a short bed with the fifth wheel/gooseneck trailer HI TCH prep package. Camper is 44 and has a GVWR 18000#. Please let me know what you would recommend to tow this camper. I was looking at the Gen-Y gooesneck but then I read it does not work well with the short bed, will cruck bed. I can send pictures of truck bed prep, the camper GVWR and info of the 5th wheel hitch.

Since you have the OEM puck system in the bed of your 2018 Chevy Silverado 2500 and you have a 6-1/2' bed I recommend going with a sliding 5th wheel hitch like the B&W Companion OEM 5th Wheel Hitch w/ Slider for Chevy/GMC Towing Prep Package # BWRVK3770. This will drop right into the pucks in your bed for a super easy peasy installation or removal. If you ever get in a tight spot and need the extra turning clearance you can switch the hitch into the rearward position to gain an extra 12" of clearance. B&W is known for their top tier quality and is one of the most recommended brands in the industry.

The only downside to the Companion is that it doesn't have an automatic sliding base so you'd have to get out and release the travel latch and pull forward to lock it into the rearward position. Once you're finished making your turn you'll have to get back out and release the latch and reverse to lock the hitch back into the forward towing position. If you'd rather have it automatically slide then you'll want a hitch like the Demco Autoslide 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ Slider # DM8550035.

This hitch doesn't have feet designed to drop into your puck system so you'll also need the Demco 5th Wheel Rail Adapter for Chevy/GMC OEM 5th Wheel Towing Prep Package # DM6194 in order to mount it in place.
