Replacement Hydraulic Trailer Brakes for a 16 Foot Cronkite Utility Trailer

Question:

I have a older 16foot utility trailer Cronkite. Im looking to replace all the brake/assembly L and R side. Also 1 hub/drum assemble. I watched your video and read the last persons question about being able to use this assembly. The hub I have is a Dexter 8-201. My question is will this part 23-324 be compatible with what I have? Im looking to replace all 4 brake assemblies. I believe the part 23-342 for the left side and the 23-343 for the right. I measure my brakes they are 2inch wide and 12inch across. I was told I have 3500 Lb axles. Just wanted to make sure this is right before I order it. I also need to purchase 1 hub/drum assemble. Can I use the 8-201-5 I have all new bearings and a seal for the hub. I found out after I purchased everything that the race was bad too. I installed a new race. After I installed it, the race was spinning in the hub. I was told I need a new hub assembly now. Any information you can give is greatly appreciated.

Since you have Dexter hubs and you have the 5-bolt pattern to mount brakes, you can replace them with new Dexter hydraulic brake assemblies. For 3500 pound axles though you would not have a 5-bolt pattern and the assemblies would be smaller than 12x2 inches. So I do not think you have 3500 pound axles. If you can tell me the bearing numbers you have that will help me determine the axle capacity and the correct hub.

The Dexter brake assemblies you mentioned, # 23-342 for the left and # 23-343 for the right, are 12x2 inch assemblies with the 5-bolt pattern and they fit 7k axles.

To determine the proper hub, in addition to the bearing numbers I would also need to know the bolt pattern of the wheel. I have linked a help article that shows how to measure for bolt pattern. The hub you mentioned, # 8-201-5, is for 5,200 pound axles.
