Recommended Trailer Hitch, Wiring, And Brake Controller For A 2019 Ford F-150 XLT

Question:

Hello,I am looking at 2019 Ford F150 XLT to possibly purchase for towing my 20 ft boat and a 16ft cargo trailer on occasion ,However this particular truck has no brake controller, trailer light plug or receiver hitch. Would you know if the factory wiring would be in place to plug in the brake controller possibly behind dash or it possible for some trucks to not have the factory wiring,it does have Tow Modeinch on the shift controller, Thank you

Some models have a plug-in port to easily wire in a brake controller, but there isn't a way for us to know if the specific one you're looking at has this connection available without physically searching for it in the vehicle. "Tow Mode" on the shifter only affects the shift point for the engine to help protect it while towing and wouldn't activate the brakes on the trailer.

If you really don't have a factory 4-way or 7-way connector at the back of the truck then you'll need to splice the 4-Pole Hardwire Kit with Circuit Tester # 18252 into your tail light wiring to get your light functions. From there you'll need to install the # ETBC7 to get a 7-way. This will have a wire to run up to the cab of the truck to connect to a brake controller. If you're not wanting to hardwire in a brake controller then you can just cap this wire off and use the Curt Echo Wireless Brake Controller # C51180.

This brake controller will plug into the # ETBC7 and the trailer will plug into it and will allow you to activate the brakes. The output and sensitivity can be adjusted with a downloadable app, which will also allow you to manually override the brakes. I've attached a video below where Adam will show you how this brake controller works. If you'd prefer to hardwire in a brake controller then let me know and I can find the correct parts for your needs.

For the trailer hitch you can install the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C14017. I've attached a video below where Ryan will walk you through the installation process.
