Why Can't Draw Tite Hitch 76194 be Used with Weight Distribution

Question:

Hi there, Trying to figure out why this hitch is not rated for use with a WDH? My Volvo owners manual ONLY states that WDH is not to be used with the factory Volvo hitch, which makes sense because it is an electrically articulated unit. Ive reached out to Draw-Tite and they never answered. Ive reached out to Volvo directly and they only advise that you talk to your local dealer, who of course doesnt know either way. I know theres the notion that unibody cars shouldnt use a WDH, but every car is different, and if a manufacturer wont respond with a definite answer, whos to know? Its very frustrating because all Id like to do is move about 100lbs back to the front axle using a WDH.

The reason the Draw Tite hitch part # 76194 can't be used with a weight distribution system is due to how it attaches to the vehicle. What we have found is that if it attaches along the bottom of the frame rails it can be used with a WD system, assuming the vehicle can handle it, but if it attaches to the back of the frame like this hitch it cannot be used with a WD. It just puts too much torque on a portion of the frame that is smaller so it can't handle the stress.
