Are Replacement Spring Bars Available For The Curt TruTrack 4P Weight Distribution System # C74RV

Question:

2005 Ford Excursion, towing a 3500-4500 lb single axle travel trailer with a tongue weight of 350-500 lb . I like the quick disconnect feature of this Curt 17520 WD hitch. Will the Replacement Trunnion Spring Bar for Curt TruTrack Weight Distribution System - 800 lbs TW,Item C17535 fit the Curt 17520?

Hey Paul,

I spoke with Curt and they stated that the Replacement Trunnion Spring Bar for Curt TruTrack Weight Distribution System # C17535 would only be compatible with the # C17499. The Curt TruTrack 4P Trailer Mounted Weight Distribution System w/ Sway Control # C74RV (17520) is such a new part that Curt doesn't have replacement parts set up for it yet but is working on it.

That being said neither of these would properly distribute the weight and would instead make it worse because they're too highly rated for 350-500lbs of tongue weight. Instead I recommend the Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution w/ Sway Control # BXW0550. I've used this system numerous times and love how easy it is to install and use. The spring bars are interchangeable with this head so you'll be able to upgrade later on if you need to tow a heavier trailer.

I just bought a new Intech Sol Dusk Rover which has a GVWR of 4800 lbs, with a TW of 540-575 lbs. I’m pulling this with a 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited X (5.7L Hemi) rated for 6,000 lbs, carrying approximately 300 lbs cargo behind the rear axle. The truck accessory store I ordered my trailer brake kit and WD hitch recommended the Curt 17499 WD hitch with sway control, which is rated from 6,000-8,000 lbs. Seems like overkill but what would you recommend?

@DougS The current consensus from weight distribution hitch manufacturers is that the payload (300lbs) inside your Grand Cherokee would not count towards the spring bar capacity range of the weight distribution hitch but would towards to the tongue weight capacity of the trailer hitch receiver on your vehicle. The Curt TruTrack Weight Distribution System # C17499 has a tongue weight range of 500 - 800lbs so it would fall within your estimated trailer tongue weight, but it would likely be overkill. The only way to really know would be to fill the trailer like you were going to go camping and then measure the tongue weight with a scale. If you end up a little lighter and sit in the 400lb - 600lb range then you could go with something like the Fastway e2 Weight Distribution w/ 2-Point Sway Control # FA94-00-0600 instead.
