SumoSprings Suspension Enhancement Recommendation for 2023 Ram 1500 Towing Travel Trailer

Question:

Truck is a 2023 Ram 1500 with e-torque. Trailers are a 6000 lb travel trailer with weight distribution, and a 14000 lb dump trailer no weight distribution. Truck is also often used unloaded. The dump trailer weighs 4200 lbs empty and very seldom carrying more than 6000 lbs, sometimes up to 8,000 lbs. From what I’ve read the Sumo Springs SSR-307-40 springs would work for most of my towing. But because of the dump trailer would I be better off going with the SSR-307-47 springs? Would I be overloading the -40 springs when towing a heavy load with the dump trailer? I will get the -47 springs if required but am concerned about the unloaded ride as opposed to the -40 springs. Depending on what Ive read some say there is no difference between the two springs with the unloaded ride. Others say the -47 springs will give a rougher unloaded ride. What do you think?

Hey Ron, based on the weights you plan to tow the better option would be the higher rated # SSR-307-47 as it is rated for an additional 1,500 lbs of support as opposed to the part # SSR-307-40 at 1,000 lbs. The ride quality is going to be really similar between the two but the additional support will be more beneficial.

Thanks Jameson, looks like the SSR-307-47 is the better choice. But before I order, do you think the SumoSpring is a better way to go than the Timbren DR1500DQ for my application?

@Ron Absolutely it is better. Timbrens are super harsh and shouldn't be used on any vehicle that will be driven without a load unless you don't mind a really rough ride.
