What Trailer Wiring is Needed for 2024 Subaru Outback Wagon

Question:

I have a 2024 Subaru Outback XT. I would like to get an Aliner LXE and want to understand the wiring requirements. Thanks, Ryan

Hey Ryan, so I looked up the Aliner LXE and it doesn't look like a trailer that would have brakes so most likely all you need is a 4-way confirmed as a fit for your 2024 Subaru Outback XT like the Tekonsha part # 118467 which installs pretty easily. 4-way trailer wiring basically controls all of the taillight functions on a trailer but nothing else

If instead the trailer DOES have brakes you would need to convert the 4-way to a 7-way with the part # ETBC7 so that you can install a brake controller like the Prodigy P2 part # 90885. A 7-way has the same circuits as 4-way plus addition of trailer brakes and 12 volt accessory circuit for charging a battery if needed.

Is the ETBC7 something that I can easily install after the fact?

@Ryan Yes, it does not need to be installed at same time as the 4-way and you wouldn't save anytime or anything doing at that time. Basically the 4-way plugs into the ETBC7 and then you run a few wires after that.

@JamesonC it looks like all the Aliner trailers come with power breaks as standard feature. I will need a 2 in ball and 7- pin plug, this will give power to the brakes, 12-v power to operate the lights etc. I also need to set the ball 21" or 23" from the ground depending on tire size. So what is my shopping list? And where can I get this installed.

@Ryan Okay so brake controller and ETBC7 will cover the 7-way and operating the trailer brakes. If you don't have a hitch you would want the etrailer part # e25TR. Since this has it's hitch opening height at 16 inches you'd need a rise of 5 inches like the part # 40346 to get to the 21 inch dimension you mentioned. Then for a 2 inch ball you'd want the part 63845. I attached a link to find a local installer for you to check out as well.
