Recommended 7-Way to 4-Way And 7-Way Adapter For 2002 Chevrolet Silverado

HM40975.I would like to know how to install this on my 2002 silverado 1500 which is already pre setup for towing. I already have a connector running to a black box. All I do is lift the door and plug in the gm 7 pole to 4 pole adapter then plug in my trailer. People keep stealing the adapter. I want to use yours so I dont need the adapter but I dont want to cut off the round 7 pole connector that came on the truck. Do I have to cut it off to wire in your harness? Thanks from a 30 yr proff firefighter

Expert Reply:

The Hopkins Pollak 7- and 4-Pole Trailer Connector Socket w/ Mounting Bracket, part # HM40975, you referenced may solve your theft problems. The 7-way round connector you currently have on the rear of your 2002 Chevrolet Silverado plugs directly into the back of this adapter and will give you a 4-way and a 7-way connector on your vehicle. Since you are mounting this adapter in a more secure and permanent way, thieves will probably not want to spend the time it would take to remove it from your truck. I have attached an installation video

I also recommend using dielectric grease like part # 11755 when making any electrical connections. It helps keep dirt and moisture out of the connections and prevents corrosion.

And thanks for your many years of service to the community.
