Recommended 7-Way Connector and Brake Controller for a 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser
Question:
I have a 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser with a 4-pin tailer receptacle. I now have a 2025 Aluma trailer with a 7-pin plug and electric brakes. What product will utilize or replace the 4-pin connector and control the electric trailer brakes?

Hey Charles congrats on the new trailer! Since you already have a 4-way connector you'll need to add a 7-Way connector and a brake controller to your 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser.
To add a 7-Way connector, you'll need the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller item # ETBC7. The kit includes a pre-wired 7- and 4-way trailer connector that mounts easily at the rear of your Toyota with an included bracket. This kit is designed for use on a vehicle, like yours, with an existing 4-way flat trailer connector and plugs directly into it.
You will then connect the blue wire to the blue wire on the brake controller, connect the black wire to the positive post on your battery, the white wire to ground, and the yellow wire to vehicle's reverse circuit if applicable. This will provide you with the ability to control your trailer's brakes and also provide you with a 12v power wire for you trailer's accessory lights.
For a brake controller, I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Brake Controller item # 90195. This is a proportional brake controller that activates your trailer's brakes with the same force you are stopping your Toyota with. This is not only the safest way to stop but also the easiest on both your tow vehicle and your new trailer.
